Chapter 16

Marketing

source CRM: Campaigns

Source-CRM equivalent: Campaigns. Renamed Marketing. Lists, creates and edits the campaigns in the database (automated and traditional); e-mail sends run through your own Mailchimp / Constant Contact account via the TechieCRM cloud.

In this chapter - The list and filters - Opening a campaign - On the web (the Marketing list) - Members (Related panel) — and what is not populated on the web yet - Not yet available

The list

Icon bar ▸ Marketing (master-detail: Related and Interactions follow the selected campaign). Filter: All Marketing / Automated Marketing / Traditional Marketing / Current Marketing. Toolbar: Column Setup, Marketing Steps Summary, Review Roles, Search by Marketing Campaign Name, Duplicate, then Refresh / Settings / Close. Duplicate (September 2026 update) asks, then creates a new campaign named Copy of with the same kind (automated / traditional), objective, status, dates, revenue and comment; members, steps and e-mail-provider links are not copied. It is a write, so a read-only plan or a user without Marketing write rights is stopped before anything is created. Columns: (icon), Status, Name, Start Date, Close Date, Revenue, Creator. Revenue and Budget print as $12,345.00, and a negative figure as -$50.00 — minus sign before the dollar sign (Chapter 7, How money is written); a blank value stays blank. Status icon/colour: New (blue), In Progress (green ↗), Completed (blue ✓), Cancelled / Abandoned (grey), Suspended (amber ‖).

Opening a campaign

Double-click or right-click ▸ Open: the campaign dialog with tabs Basic Information (name, products/services, categories, description, revenue from won / in-progress opportunities, key fields), User-Defined Fields, Marketing Plans (activities for the campaign), Subscribers (members with email), Status (New / In Progress / Completed / Abandoned / Suspended and completion details), Test, Email Marketing (below). OK saves and closes, Apply saves and stays: the name, the description (stored as the campaign objective), the status, the start date and the expected revenue are written to the campaign record. Properties shows type, identification, created/modified by-and-when.

Adding a campaign

Right-click the list ▸ Add ▸ Add Automated Marketing… / Add Traditional Marketing… opens the same dialog empty; OK creates the campaign (a traditional campaign is a postal/print campaign, an automated one is an e-mail campaign) and the list reloads with it selected-ready. Templates are not available yet.

The ribbon does the same thing from anywhere in the program: Home ▸ Create ▸ Automated Marketing or Traditional Marketing opens Marketing (if it is not already open) and then the same empty dialog for that kind — the title reads Add Automated Marketing / Add Traditional Marketing, and OK creates the campaign and reloads the list exactly as the right-click route does.

Email Marketing tab

Shows which provider is connected (Settings ▸ Marketing), this campaign's send statistics — Sent, Opens, Clicks, Bounces, Unsubs, Complaints — as last synced by the cloud (about every 30 minutes), and the actions Push audience (send the campaign's members to the provider list), Create / Re-link provider campaign (asks for the e-mail subject), Send now (enabled once a provider campaign is linked) and Refresh stats. Open in web portal opens the same campaign on the web, where the same buttons live. Two honest limits: statistics appear only for campaigns that the cloud knows as e-mail campaigns (link the campaign in the web portal first — the tab says so when there is no record), and while the cloud still requires a portal sign-in for these actions the tab says so and hands you to the portal instead of pretending they ran. Export to Excel and Print Column Report… on the right-click menu work on the current list.

On the web (the Marketing list)

The web Marketing page is the same master-detail workspace, with the campaigns on top and the selected campaign's panels below. Its toolbar carries:

  • Type — All Types / Email / Direct Mail / Telemarketing / Event / Web / Social Media / Other. Campaigns brought across from the source CRM carry no type, so on a migrated workspace this filter finds only campaigns created here.
  • Status — Any Status / Draft / Active / Completed / Cancelled, the same filter as the clickable pills under the toolbar, which carry a live count each and are only offered when they would show something. The counts will not add up to All: a campaign brought across from the source CRM carries no status and belongs to none of the four.
  • Email Marketing (the ✉ button) — the way to the provider connectors and the suppression list described below. It is next to the ⚙ button, which goes to the same page; the ⚙ is only shown to workspace administrators and connecting a provider is not an administrator-only job.
  • Every column sorts, paging and Show all work as described in Chapter 20, and each row's icon and colour follow the campaign's status.

Double-clicking a row opens the campaign's own page, with its details, its Email Marketing panel and the mail-merge export.

Members

Selecting a campaign lists its member client entries in the Related panel (they come from the campaign's subscriber table); their columns follow your Related column setup.

Member counts. A campaign carries two numbers. Members is the number of people the campaign can still reach — subscribers who were removed or who unsubscribed at the source are not in it, by the same rule the source CRM's own campaign reports use. All subscriber rows (raw_member_count on the web and mobile) is every row ever added to the campaign, removed ones included, kept so you can audit who left. Anything that sends — an audience push, a mail merge, a printed letter — uses the first number. If the two differ, the difference is the people who asked not to be contacted.

On the web, campaign membership is not populated yet. The web portal stores a campaign's members in its own field, and nothing writes to it — not the desktop sync, not the web forms, not the API. So on the web the campaign page's Push audience sends nobody, and Export members for mail merge downloads a file with column headings and no rows. Nothing is lost and nothing is wrong with your data; the web simply has no member list to work from yet. Use the desktop Subscribers tab in the meantime.

Email marketing providers (Mailchimp, Constant Contact)

Campaign email sends through your own email-marketing provider account — every workspace connects its own login, and TechieCRM never needs developer keys or an API application from you. Set up in Setup ▸ Settings ▸ Marketing — or press the ⚙ Settings button on the Marketing toolbar (between Refresh and Close), which opens straight to that tab (see A5): two provider cards, each with connection status, the connected audience/account and when it was connected, and Enable… buttons that walk you through the steps —

  • Mailchimp — five steps to your own API key: sign in at mailchimp.com, profile icon ▸ Account & billing, Extras ▸ API keys, Create A Key named "TechieCRM", paste it into the dialog. If your account has more than one audience the dialog asks which to use.
  • Constant Contact — a plain sign-in through TechieCRM's registered application: click Open the Constant Contact sign-in, log in with your own account, click Allow. (Constant Contact is still reviewing TechieCRM's application; until they approve it the sign-in only succeeds for TechieCRM's own account — if the page refuses your login, that is why. Mailchimp is live for everyone today.) One check: Constant Contact requires your organization's physical street address on file in their account settings — sends fail without it.
  • Disconnect (on each card) removes the stored credentials from the TechieCRM cloud and stops campaign sends through that provider; the provider name, account and connect date stay on record as the audit trail. It does not revoke the grant in your provider account — to fully revoke, also remove the API key (Mailchimp) or the TechieCRM application (Constant Contact) there. Pressing it twice is harmless. A status of connected_unverified means the account check at connect time didn't complete — press Refresh Status; if it persists, Disconnect and Enable again.

Campaign pushes, sends and statistics are executed by the TechieCRM cloud on your behalf; the same setup is available in the web portal at Marketing ▸ Email Marketing. Sent-campaign statistics (sent, opens, clicks, bounces, unsubscribes, complaints) are collected by the cloud automatically about every 30 minutes and shown on the campaign in the web portal, where Refresh stats fetches them immediately (the desktop Marketing panel does not display them yet). If the provider rejects the stored authorization, the provider card's status reads error followed by the provider's reason — Disconnect and Enable again to re-authorize.

Suppression list. Every unsubscribe, hard bounce and spam complaint — from any provider and any channel — is recorded in one master list, and those addresses are never pushed to a provider or emailed again. Open it from Marketing ▸ Email Marketing ▸ View suppressed addresses; the number beside the button is how many addresses are currently suppressed. The list shows the address, the reason, which provider or channel reported it, and when. It is read-only on purpose: a suppression is the recipient's decision. Postal (print & mail) campaigns are not affected — the mail-merge export on a campaign includes every member regardless of email suppression.

Not yet available

Campaign templates, deleting campaigns, automated steps (multi-step sequences), campaign history, the Retrieve ▸ list actions (opened / clicked / unsubscribed entries), adding/removing subscribers or test entries from the desktop. Steps Summary and Roles open but list nothing until those data sets are connected (the source CRM's campaign-step and role tables have no verified link to a campaign row yet). Content (the e-mail itself) is authored in the provider's editor.

About the Retrieve ▸ actions specifically. Not yet available here means the screen, not the data. What each recipient did — opened, clicked which link, unsubscribed, replied — is recorded per entry per campaign activity, and TechieCRM has checked that against the database rather than assumed it; what is missing is the command that turns those rows into a Clients list. So the figures shown on a campaign are the real counts: a zero means nobody opened or clicked, not that TechieCRM could not look. One of the five is further off than the others — Unsuccessful (the entries a send failed for) also needs the delivery-state codes confirmed, because nothing in the source CRM's own campaign reports says which value means "failed", and a guess would list the wrong entries.
